Different shaft sizes?

Postby Jeff on Tue Jan 26, 2010 12:51 pm

Spare 30 shaft on top, one from my housing in the middle, and a spare rear 44 shaft on the bottom to compare. My shaft (middle) has a circumference difference of 1/2" compared to the spare I have and does not taper off at any point except for at the splines. Did the Dana 30s used in Jeep CJs (and other models with similar drive-train parts) come with different size shafts?

Image
Picture taken of the inner end of the shafts and not the whole assembly to be show the taper off and size since it might be impossible to tell without seeing it in person.
